The San Francisco 49ers have announced that wide receiver Dontavia Bogan has been waived. Bogan signed with the team as an undrafted free agent out of the University of South Florida last year but injured his ACL during training camp. He was placed on injured reserve.
He had been rehabbing since the injury and recently on Twitter announced that he was medically cleared to play. He was expected to get a shot at making the roster during this year’s camp.
But since the 49ers have revamped their wide receiving group, Bogan appeared to be expendable. The 49ers now have receivers Randy Moss, Mario Manningham, Michael Crabtree, Kyle Williams, Ted Ginn, Joe Hastings and John Matthews under contract for this upcoming season.
