For many, the month of March is consumed by hours sitting around the TV and cheering on their favorite college basketball team in their pursuit of the NCAA championship. But in Washington state March is also a time to celebrate the winning ways of our wineries that, in a few short years, have become world renown.
Every year the Washington State Wine Commission sets aside the entire month of March to hold a myriad of celebrations and honor the wines that puts Washington on par with the other great wine producing regions in the world.
The last week in March is an all out blitz starting with the Washington Wine Commissions Restaurant Awards held at the Washington Athletic Club. Over several glasses of wine the winners were announced as Metropolitan Grill took home top honors for offering their customers over 600 Washington wines.
The next day RN74 (winner of most innovative wine list at the restaurant awards) offered up some of their incredibly tasty bites paired with Washington wine during their ever popular Happy Hour.
But the grand daddy of wine events took place over the last two days of the month at Taste Washington. This event brings out thousands of wine lovers who queue up for a chance to sip some wines that they know and love as well as wines that they are discovering for the very first time. Each year the list of wineries in our state continues to grow.
Here are a few favorites from last year. Did you attend this year? What were your favorites?
