Is it March, is it June? The warm temps in North Alabama are bringing out the tanks and shorts, and shortly the bathing suit season will be here. It may not be time to actually wear them yet, but it’s certainly time to take a look at the hottest styles.
Don’t think you have to go far to find your fav color, shape or pattern. The pursuit of the suit can be intimidating, but when it comes to soaking in the rays or hitting the waves, you want to look your best. Local shops have what you are looking for, but it’s smart to know ahead of time which bathing suit “suits” you the best. How to do this? Try on, try on, try on. It’s very difficult to ascertain how a one shoulder or a retro suit will look on you without checking it out in the mirror, on your body.
There are four basic styles of swim wear:
- One piece
If you body isn’t what you want yet, don’t automatically revert back to a basic, boring one-piece, thinking you have no other choice. This style has been revamped to be sophisticated, sexy and can be your best friend. Waist cinching, curve hugging, this suit can be very body enhancing. The retro look (on slideshow) is a cool way to look to the past and bring your look into the trendy present.
Ahhh, the bikini. Most women think they have to have the perfect body to wear a bikini. Not so. High waisted two piece suits can camoflage a tummy (again the retro look revisited). A bikini also doesn’t necessarily mean a string bikini. There are very modest two-piece bathing suits that you can feel comfortable in.
If you feel self-conscious, the tankini may be the one for you. This suit gives the wearer a sense of coverage, but breathes better than a one-piece. If you feel self-conscious, this suit may be for you. It shows a little skin but you will still feel modestly covered.
Monokinis (mono-one, kinis-still seeing skin): This one-piece, two piece suit is a trendy way to cover and show at the same time. Usually sides are missing and the neckline is very low-cut. Still, this suit has an up to date look that is sometimes lost on a basic one-piece.
