In front of the 10th largest crowd in Trenton Thunder history, pitcher Andy Pettitte took another step towards a return to the Bronx.
Pettitte took the hill for the class AA Thunder Wednesday night, allowing four runs and seven hits in five plus innings. While the Thunder would eventually fall 10-4 to the Erie SeaWolves, Andy was the center of attention.
The 39 year old lefty is looking to join a Yankee squad that suddenly needs him more than ever. After news this afternoon that their ailing off-season acquisition Michael Pineda will undergo season ending shoulder surgery, and on the heels of mediocre performances from the back end of their rotation, a comeback is just what the bombers need.
“I felt good,” Pettitte said on the evening. “It’s another step in the right direction.”
