A man was cited Tuesday for allegedly exposing his genitals and simulating sex with a mannequin in the women’s clothing department of the Sears store located in the Burbank Town Center mall. The Burbank Leader has identified the man as 55-year-old Mateo Garcia of Arleta.
A female loss prevention officer observed Garcia acting suspiciously at about 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, and kept him under surveillance to ensure that he did not steal any of the store’s merchandise. To her surprise, however, the man allegedly approached a fully dressed female mannequin from behind, exposed himself and, as Burbank Police Sergeant Darin Ryburn told the LA Weekly, “continually thrust himself toward the mannequin.”
The security guard, with the help of a male store employee, detained Garcia and held him under citizen’s arrest until police arrived. The female employee told the officers that she witnessed the suspect “inappropriately having sex with a store mannequin.”
Garcia was charged with the misdemeanor offense of exposing oneself in public. He is scheduled to answer the charge in Los Angeles County Superior Court on May 15.
