I have been speaking with participants in this year’s Artomatic. The event has a new venue in Chrystal City just a block from the Metro. Artomatic is an “open” art event in that there are pretty much no formal rules for artists. It is where artists of all genres can let it go as they wish.
I will be profiling one such artist as she will give to us a sneak preview before the opening. I will be there while she hangs her work.
“Artomatic creates community, builds audience and expands economic development by transforming available space into a playground for artistic expression. Unjuried events showcase creative work in visual art, music, film, performance, and fashion. Artomatic is a non-profit organization headed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is funded in part by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, an agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.”
Of course it is a free event May 18th-June 24th and is the closest thing we have to a “happening.” It is a blast to see so much work, thousands of square feet of art and artists.
I will profiling and reviewing many artists during the exhibit period.
