Singer/songwriter/pianist Avery Sunshine made history with daily performances at private events surrounding the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama. On April 12th, 2012, it became another historic moment as Avery brought down the house with two separate encores during her packed show at DROM in New York City. Not to downplay the great accomplishment of ’09, but what Avery Sunshine embodies to her fans is something much bigger.
My friend and publicist Fiona Bloom says of that show, “she took the crowd to church!” referring to Avery’s Aretha Franklin medley that left the crowd completely beside themselves.
It’s apparent that Avery, from the first note, uses her gift to shine a light that sketches the path of her calling. I can go on with the typical “comparisons” that litter recording industry bios and press kits…but there is a uniqueness that qualifies this artist to stand in her own lane.
Seemingly in complete control of her performance space, Avery is an artist that is reminisent of the singing greats that came before her with a stylish vibe that rivals today’s best, while creating a blueprint for those who follow in her footsteps. She has a special kind of class, which came across when she sang “Happy Birthday” to one of the shows attendees. A moment that is sure to stay embedded in their heart for many years to come.
If you or any of your family and friends are in Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta, Detriot or D.C., let it be known that Avery Sunshine is coming to town…and her show is NOT one to miss!
