Arabi, LA – Everybody enjoys a good rescue story, especially when the stars of the show include a child and a dog.
A story published yesterday at Nola.com has all of the elements of a great dog rescue tale.
The life and death struggle happened earlier this month in Arabi.
Bo, a Pit bull who lives in the neighborhood, was barking frantically; desperate to catch the attention of 12-year-old Destiniee Billiot.
Bo’s efforts paid off when the girl decided to follow him in an effort to see what was the matter. Bo led Billiot to the bank of a canal where she could see for herself the source of his distress.
In the waters of the canal the girl witnessed a stray dog who was drowning.
The girl quickly took action, running to get help for the struggling dog.
A neighbor responded to the child’s plea for help, bringing along a rope which was used to keep the drowning dog’s head from slipping beneath the water.
Meanwhile, Billiot’s family phoned 911, pleading for help for the drowning dog.
Thankfully, those on scene successfully kept the dog afloat until animal control officer Kyle Menant showed up to complete the desperate rescue mission.
Lucky was taken to the St. Bernard Parish Animal shelter and not long after, someone well known in the world of Pit bull rescue phoned to let them know that he would be safe – Tia Torres of Pit Bulls and Parolees.
Torres recently relocated the Villalobos Rescue Center to the New Orleans area where future episodes of the hit television show will also be filmed.
According to the publication, Torres is going to feature Lucky’s amazing rescue story on an upcoming episode of the show.
Lucky had a lot of heroes that day.
Bo, the vocal Pit bull who first alerted Destiniee to the situation, Destiniee Billiot who made the decision to follow Bo to see what was wrong, and to the rest of the friends and family (including the fast-acting animal control officer) who saw to it that one desperate stray did not slip beneath the waters and disappear forever.
Great job to everyone involved – your compassion and humanity are a breath of fresh air.
