Easter is celebrated by Christians around the world and in St. Louis as the remembrance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. During this joyous and reverent event, songs are sung. Worship songs are sung. Praise songs are sung. And, then there is the best classic Christian song – “The Easter Song”.
“The Easter Song” was first written and performed by 2nd Chapter of Acts, who was a group that performed throughout the 1970s and became well known to members of Jesus Movement. The song was later performed and made popular by Keith Green.
Keith Green performed in St. Louis at, what was then known as, the Kiel Opera House. He also performed at Florissant Civic Center in the late 1970s and early 1980s before his tragic unexpected death in a private plane crash on July 28, 1982. His wife later returned to promote pro-life ministries.
The Easter Song tells the entire story of Christ’s resurrection and what it means to Christians who believe. The simple piano accompaniment backs the lyrics as Keith’s unmistakable voice belts them out. Keith Green was known not only for his musical talent, but for his heart-wrenching calls for any who would hear and make a decision to change their life in a response to message of good news. In his words, he would proclaim that:
He, himself, has the power to save. Just dare to believe in Him!
