On Friday, May 11,start off Mother’s Day Weekend with The Warren Vache’ Trio who will treat music lovers to two hours of great music from 7 to 9 p.m.. The doors of Sarah Cooke Hall located in Heritage Village, in Southbury will open at 6:00 p.m. for a social hour.
This internationally renowned trio consists of Warren Vache’ on Trumpet, Nicki Parrott on Bass and Tardo Hammer on piano. Each player is held in high esteem in the jazz world and each have played in all the major international festivals including Newport, Litchfield, Detroit, Bern, Ottawa, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Vienna Opera, and the Royal Festival Hall in London, to name just a few.
They individually have played with the most recognizable jazz masters for decades including a virtual “Who’s who” in Jazz, spanning every style in the history of jazz music. Mr. Vaché has recorded over 35 albums under his own name including the award winning “2gether” with Bill Charlap. His trumpet style has been described as lyrical, warm, daring and exciting. Warren Vaché has a delightful way of engaging his audience and leaves listeners enthralled with the beauty and joy of his playing and the warmth of his vocals. Pianist and composer Jim McNeely was heard to say: “Every chorus he plays is like a lesson in the history of the trumpet.”
Nicki Parrott has performed and/or recorded with such notable musicians as Randy Brecker, Skitch Henderson, Jose Feliciano, Rebecca Paris, Bucky Pizzarelli, John Pizzarelli, Clark Terry, Michel Legrand, Billy Taylor, Dick Hyman, Patti Labelle & the New York Pops Orchestra, among many others.
Tardo Hammer for more than a quarter of a century has been a major figure on the New York City bebop scene. He is an oft-sought sideman and since 1994 has been accompanist and musical director for the vocalist Annie Ross. Over the years he has performed with such notables as Bill Hardman-Junior Cook Quintet, Lou Donaldson, the Art Farmer-Clifford Jordan Quintet with Lionel Hampton, Johnny Griffin, Charlie Rouse, Al Porcino, Al Cohn and Mel Lewis.
