TV best bets for the weekend of March 31st-April 1st are the NCAA Final Four, the Kids’ Choice Awards, and country music’s ACM Awards. All are very diverse and attract very different TV audiences, but all promise to be sure-fire hits this weekend.
Network officials are revealing more and more details about this weekend’s best TV bets. On Friday, the Academy of Country Music added Zac Brown, Liam Hemsworth, Sugarland and Scotty McCreery to its list of prestigious presenters. Other presenters announced on Wednesday include Taylor Swift, Lionel Richie, Beth Behrs, Hunter Hayes, and Nancy O’Dell. Nickelodeon also announced on Wednesday that Michelle Obama would make her first ever appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards. It all adds up to an exciting and diverse weekend of TV entertainment and exciting hoops action.
NCAA Final Four:
The 2012 Men’s College Basketball Tournament heats up this weekend when four teams vie for the prestigious title. With earlier upsets, many basketball fans’ brackets have imploded, but the action will still be heart-pounding as the final four teams gather in New Orleans this weekend. The first national semi-final game features in-state rivals Kentucky and Louisville facing off. It airs at 5:09 p.m. The second semifinal game features Ohio State and Kansas, both two seeds in their respective regions. Tip-off is at 7:49 p.m. The final national championship game tips off at 8:23 p.m. on Monday, April 2nd. All games air on CBS.
2012 Kids’ Choice Awards:
On Saturday, March 31st, millions of kids will tune in to Nickelodeon to catch the 2012 Kids Choice Awards. The big question is, “Who will get slimed this year?” Will Smith serves as the host of this year’s 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards and Michelle Obama is presenting the Big Green Award to Taylor Swift for recognition of her efforts to help U.S. flood and tornado victims. Katy Perry is set to perform and Nicki Minaj and Taylor Lautner will strut their stuff on the orange carpet. Hollywood’s cutest couple, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez will reunite and attend the 2012 KCA’s together. Bieber is nominated for Favorite Male Singer and Selena for Favorite TV Actress. The 2012 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards airs live on Saturday, March 31st at 8:00 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon.
2012 ACM Awards:
The first ACM Awards took place in 1965 when Buck and Bonnie Owens took home the top prizes. Now, 47 years later, more than twenty country artists are lined up to perform, many of them in memorable duets. Kenny Chesney will share the stage with Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton will sing with Lionel Ritchie, Rascal Flatts is collaborating with Steve Martin, and Martina McBride is pairing with Train’s Pat Monahan. Kenny Chesney leads this year’s nominations with nine nods. The biggest award of the evening is Entertainer of the Year. The nominees are Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, and Taylor Swift. The 2012 ACM Awards airs live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
