The McKinney Avenue Contemporary, also known as the MAC, exudes culture, class, and summons visitors to rediscover art. The eye-catching blue building stands out in Uptown, beckoning curiosity and welcoming guests in.
Displaying freedom of expression in all artistic mediums, the MAC has hosted the work of over 275 artists. Partnering with Kitchen Dog Theater, the MAC’s exhibitions have been praised as award-worthy. From an aquarium stocked with floating false fish strung to weights, to a large scale water bottle piece illuminated in a dim room, there are interesting finds in every corner of the MAC.
Current exhibitions include local artist Billy Hassell’s, WATERSHED, in which he uses fantastically bright colors and contrasting shades to depict a very valuable resource, water, and the ecosystems that interact within our rivers, streams, and lakes.
Hassell’s exhibit is on display until May 19, 2012. The MAC is located at 3120 McKinney Avenue in Dallas and open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free and family-friendly, the MAC does encourage donations of $5 a person to continue to support the artistic community.
