After attending the Biz Bash Expo 2012 in Ft. Lauderdale last week, it was clear the economy is on its way back up. Last year the show lacked pizazz and interaction. This year vendors were lined up waiting for attendees to sample their delish bites and experience the innovative products. The top three obvious trends in event production were interaction, mobility and customization.
As always, the expo offered a plethora of inspirational ways to put a unique stamp on any affair. A big theme was the “photo booth.” A Volkswagen beetle from Yolo Photos included tons of props and was the standout from the other more traditional photo stations. The larger than life backdrops from Backdrops Beautiful indeed made a statement. The company offers ‘a create your own’ backdrop from personal images or choose from a gallery. It’s a really cool idea that will take your guests away to another place without the cost of airfare.
Social media has taken over the event arena and buzz is the word. Buzz bands had a booth displaying customized digital interaction for guests at events. It’s a wristband that uses a QR (quick reference) bar code, which can be scanned and linked to social media outlets, very 2012.
The décor sector had a nice contrast between ultra glam and a more organic feel. Gold held court with silver for tabletop displays. Texture, texture and more texture were used in elegant draped fabrics that were pleated, tucked, gathered, ruffled, appliqued and sequined. Planners really have the freedom to express their taste and add flair with; exotic animal table coverings, lush croco embossed velvet chairs, grass chairs and props.
Desserts were taken to a divine new level. Artistic chocolate created to look like a photo frame with gold leafing from Cacao Art was nearly too beautiful to eat. Bulk candies from Bulk candy store or bulk nuts from new urban farms are the way to go for color themed parties. Contemporary spins on traditional frozen pops were the artisanal frozen confections from Hip Pops. Its a mobile truck that arrives to your event location and serves up gelato, sorbet or frozen yogurt pops all natural and customizable. More customization was on designer cookies by Shar, which enable you to promote your brand (logo) right on a scrumptious cookie.
Mobile entertainment from DJ on wheels was a showstopper with souped-up vehicles that blast music, light up and come with gull wings for a modern spin on a DJ booth. The highlight of the expo was the pop up inflatable party structures. They were beyond futuristic, it seemed as though you were on the set of E.T.
Finally, the moment we love most, a stocked bar, table set, music pumping, just an informal gathering made elegant with a few thoughtful touches. Biz Bash Expo and Awards 2012 for sure, presents all the resources and beyond to do just that. Check out their homepage for more information and future events.
