Fred “Bugsy” Buggs has been named assistant program director at Kiss (WRKS 98.7 FM). Bugsy first came to New York back in 1982 as a weekender at Kiss. In 1985 he became the station’s music director and took over the 6 to 10 PM slot. In 1986, he moved cross town to take over the afternoon slot and music director position at WBLS. Early in 1989 he moved to the night slot there. He later moved into the mid day slot and in 1990 he was named program director. 1993 saw another move, this time to Hot 97 first as the Sunday night overnight host and then to the mid day slot. In 2000, Bugs left WBLS to join “Jammin’ 105” (WTJM 105.1 FM) in their mid day slot. In June of that year, Bugsy left to rejoin Kiss for their night show. In 2002 he took over the overnights and stayed there until 2008. Bugsy then moved back to weekends. Currently Bugsy is the local producer for the Tom Joyner morning program and he handles an air shift on Saturdays from 3 to 8 PM. He will retain those duties in addition to his new assignment as assistant program director.
Elsewhere around the town, long time WLTW music director and assistant program director Morgan Prue is leaving the station. Starting on April 2nd, Morgan will join CJOT (Boom 99.7) in Ottawa, Ontario. Morgan will take over the position of Brand Director. Morgan has been with WLTW since 1997. I consider her a good friend and wish her all the best.
