Jeff Gallegos was not a Cafe’ Kili Open Mic regular. And singer/songwriter Nick Tumi didn’t attend every week. But on that Thursday night, Jeff and Nick would have a life-changing encounter.
Nick is relatively new to the local independent artist music scene in the Tampa Bay area. But he is fast becoming known amongst the local music circles since he is humble, eager to be mentored by those who are willing to impart their knowledge and he always strives to find his own style in the music he makes.
Though Nick had met Jeff about a year earlier through a mutual friend, Jeff had never heard Nick play but knew that he did know how to strum a guitar. After listening to Nick perform his set which featured his Indian chant song. Jeff approached Nick and said, “I have this decent guitar that’s just sitting there. Man, I haven’t touched it in years.” So, after hanging out at Shamrock’s together, they went to Jeff’s home where Nick was given the Ibanez guitar and then he proceeded to jam for about an hour.
Nick is currently in college with a degree in robotics technology as his goal. But, music is his other passion and has been since he was fourteen. Back then, he spent his days skateboarding with his buddies and his evenings studying guitar alone where no one heard him. Now, he is more than happy to share one of over two dozen originals or a favorite cover with anyone who asks.
And you will definitely catch him playing on that Ibanez guitar.
