High pressure will briefly “poke its nose” into the region through the day today, bringing a respite from the clouds and unsettled weather of late. However, this will be short lived as an area of low pressure will work its way east from the Illinois/ Indiana border early this afternoon, to the Mid Atlantic coast by Saturday morning, and into the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean by Saturday afternoon. The moisture associated with this system will bring the chance of some rain and/or wet snow showers to the Capital Region overnight tonight and into Saturday morning.
All the above activity will be followed by another transient ridge of high pressure which will build into the region briefly during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday, before another fast moving disturbance sweeps through the region Sunday afternoon and evening, complete with chances for another round of light rain and/or wet snow showers.
A quasi-recursive pattern of sorts persists into the new work week, as the Sunday night system is followed by yet another area of high pressure which builds in Monday and into Tuesday of next week before moving east of the region and giving way to a warm front which passes through the region Tuesday night, and a cold front which sweeps through Wednesday morning. A northerly to northwesterly flow of air builds into the region behind this system, thanks to Canadian high pressure which descends southward from Hudson’s Bay into the upper Midwest, to round out the work week. This area of high pressure looks to last through the Easter weekend.
Temperatures look to remain near normal through the entire forecast period, while as precipitation looks to remain near to slightly below normal.
