Alicia Silverstone, Mayim Bialik, many celebrity moms are coming out as strong, caring matriarchs who bond with their babies in ways some say are a little odd.
Silverstone showed herself feeding her 10-month-old son, Bear Blu, food after she chewed it and dipped down for him to retrieve it from her mouth. The strict vegan has said that her son will run across the room to eat from her mouth when she is chewing.
Mayim Bialik has a new book out that says you should carry your baby at all times, or at least as much as possible, and sleep with them through their toddler years at a minimum. Her book, “Beyond the Sling,” is the mother of two young children and swears that strapping your child to your body promotes serious bonding that can last a lifetime. She is a spokesperson for the Holistic Moms Network and holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience, so you know she’s committed to her ideas, not just thumping a book. She currently appears as Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” and is making the chat-show circuit to discuss her distinctly down-to-mother-earth ideas.
This would make the news of celebrity moms breast feeding in public seem quaint, however some still get slammed in public when they admit they breast feed when out and about. Beyonce recently was tsk’d at for allegedly breast feeding her infant daughter Blue Ivy while at a restaurant. Selma Blair recently told People that she is not shy to let loose her blouse in public to feed her son, Arthur Saint
“The only time he cries is if he’s hungry,” Blair said. “We all have nipples. I don’t care who I offend; my baby wants to eat. If I can’t get a cover over me quick enough, so be it.”
Sweet! The busy mom is back to work and appears with Charlie Sheen in “Anger Management,” which debuts in June. She is also a partner in a new nutrition company.
“Get Real for Kids is started by my very best childhood friend, Dr. Sue, so it made sense to get involved,” she said. “Nourishing myself correctly is very new to me, so I’m learning as well. It was important for me to be a real mom who loves her kid and needs to have more energy for herself and is trying to learn how to do this.”
The first-time mom, 39, opened up about how her little man has changed her life in a big way.
“I never want to leave his side,” Blair said. “I’m one of those hovering mothers and I know it’s really important to have an independent child, so I’m trying to back off, but it’s hard. I love him so much, and he’s so funny and cute to me.”
Celebrity moms. You can count on them for the latest trends, both mainstream and wacky. They certainly aren’t shy!
It will be interesting to see how mom-to-be Jessica Simpson make news with her new bundle due any day.
