Cleveland Metroparks Golf is continuing an opportunity for a team golf league for boys and girls in the sixth through eighth grade. It is a great way for younger players to get a taste of competition and coaching as they play.
Any organization can form a team, including schools, youth groups, churches, or even a neighborhood. There will be six events in this 9-hole tournament series scheduled for April 14 through May 19 on Saturday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. at Cleveland Metroparks golf courses. The leagues will be held at Seneca, Shawnee Hills, Mastick Woods, Little Met, and Washington golf courses.
A minimum of four players and a maximum of eight players are permitted on each team with one or two adult coaches. A team score will be created using the four lowest scores each time the team plays, making it beneficial to have more than four players.
Coaches may just supervise or play along with the team (but their scores do not count), whatever is appropriate for the team. Age appropriate rules will be applied to the matches. Boys and girls will compete together, unless there are sufficient numbers of teams of both genders, and then there will be separate competitions.
There is a $25 administrative fee for each team.
Golfers will pay greens fees upon arrival at the course of play each week. Green fees vary at each course, butthe junior discount fee will be in effect after 2 p.m. on weekends. Pull carts can be used or rented. Schools/ organizations can field more than one team, if there is interest. Teams are required to provide their own nickname and uniforms.
