When Susan Fricks of Yarnorama is naming the hand-dyed yarns of Fiber Obsessions, sometimes the explanation is simple. Last week, when she first introduced this month’s colorway to fan’s on the store’s Ravelry page, she decided on the name in mid-post: ‘Haven’t landed on a name for it yet as it just makes me happy… maybe “Happy Dance”… yeah, that’s it!!’
The name stuck, and Happy Dance is officially the colorway of April 2012. Deep turquoise and violet purples are offset by touches of orange, which blend into various shades of green in some places. The long staple of the Corriedale wool makes this a versatile fiber great for handspinners. Fricks suggests that it would make ‘lovely, squishy socks’.
Each 4 oz braid is $16, and can be purchased in-store in Paige just off of 290, or you can call them at (512) 253-0100 to make a purchase over the phone and have it mailed to you.
If you have the time, however, stopping by the store will yield more than just hand-dyed roving temptation. Along with April’s colorway, Fricks has also been busy dyeing more than 20 new colors of Simply Sock, a tonal fingering weight yarn that yields 400 yards for 3.5 oz. For knitters who have not yet been drawn into the spinning arts, this is the perfect way to experience Fricks’ hand-dyeing talents.
Whether roving fiber or already-spun yarn, it’s worth the drive just past Bastrop to check out this month’s selection at Yarnorama.
