ShePAC, a political action committee dedicated to electing conservative women, released a scathing video attacking Barack Obama for the double standard over Bill Maher’s $1 million donation to PrioritiesUSA, a pro-Obama PAC. The video also highlights sexist remarks made by David Letterman.
The purpose of the video is to highlight the President’s sheer hypocrisy over political speech.
Last March, Maher used a vulgar term while insulting former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. He doubled down a few days later at the Winspear Opera House, using even harsher language. Naturally, his audience loved the insults and Maher himself refused to apologize.
Recently, PrioritiesUSA co-founder Bill Burton acknowledged that some of Maher’s language was “vulgar,” but claimed it had ”no similarity” to the language Limbaugh used against Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student who told Congressional Democrats coeds are going broke buying contraception.
The difference, however, is that Limbaugh apologized for his remarks – twice – while Maher has yet to apologize for his many insults.
Nevertheless, liberals have declared a jihad against Limbaugh, hoping to get him off the air, while ignoring the hate that regularly spews from left wing talk shows. When given an opportunity to repudiate Maher’s vile comments, Democratic Reps. Jan Schakowsky and Sheila Jackson Lee remained silent.
In a letter written Mar 7, ShePAC challenged Burton to “reject” Maher and his language. After acknowledging Limbaugh’s apology for what they called his “incredibly unkind and insensitive” remarks, ShePAC wrote:
President Obama has categorically condemned this sort of language against any woman. We are calling on you today to put the President’s words to action by condemning the equally egregious and despicable behavior of HBO talk show host Bill Maher. Mr. Maher has a history of attacking women and recently attacked a host of women including a specifically violent attack at one woman who regularly, as the President says, “engages in the issues she cares about” and is a mother of three daughters and grandmother.
Mr. Maher, who disagrees with Sarah Palin’s politics, has called her a litany of adjectives inappropriate to repeat in any setting and are of the most derogatory of terms reserved for only violent verbal hate crimes against women. We understand that he has donated $1 million dollars of his personal money paid to him through various businesses that thrive on the ratings of his hate speech to your Priorities USA Action to aid in your efforts to re-elect President Obama.
Conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, herself a frequent target of liberal hate, called Maher an “invertebrate…coward” and wrote “that countless conservative women out there are fed up and pushing back.”
Not all liberals are hypocrites on this issue – Kirsten Powers noted in an op-ed at the Daily Beast that while Limbaugh’s comments deserved to be repudiated, many talkers on the left deserved to be called out for their remarks as well.
“This really shouldn’t be so hard to grasp: If you hate misogyny and sexism in the media, then react to the consistent and repeated misogyny of men on the left with the same fervor that you have reacted to Rush Limbaugh’s sickening outbursts,” she wrote Thursday.
Liberals have no right to complain about Limbaugh as long as they turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to their own.
