On April 26, Disney Store announced it will celebrate two events at its Glendale Galleria location on Sunday. Disney Store will host a grand opening celebration to mark the store’s redesign on April 29, the same day Disney Store also participates in World Wish Day for Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Glendale Galleria Disney Store celebrates remodel
The Glendale Galleria location is the site of the first Disney Store, which opened in 1987. Sunday’s grand opening not only marks the store’s remodeled location, but also helps celebrate 25 years of Disney’s unique retail entertainment environments. There are currently more than 200 Disney Stores in North America alone.
The festivities begin at 11 a.m. and will include the Make-A-Wish children, who will “unlock imagination” with an oversized lock and key at Disney Store’s signature opening ceremony. Every day after that, one lucky child will be invited to participate in that day’s ceremony.
Guests will have the chance to meet Disney characters during grand opening day. Meet and greet opportunities with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider and Belle and the Beast will take place in the mall’s center court from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Characters alternate every 30 minutes, and are subject to change or cancellation without notice.)
The grand opening event includes a free set of kid’s Mickey ears to the first 500 guests.

Disney Store participates in World Wish Day for Make-a-Wish
April 29 also marks World Wish Day, celebrating the first wish that inspired the creation of the Make-A-Wish organization.
The Glendale Galleria store, in conjunction with its grand opening and World Wish Day, will host two wish kids and their families as they enjoy a private shopping experience.
“We admire the outstanding work of Make-A-Wish and are proud to celebrate with two wish kids at the grand opening celebration at our very first store in Glendale, CA,” said Jim Fielding, president of Disney Store and Make-A-Wish International board member. “Disney Store’s mission is to create magical experiences for families every day and we are honored to be a destination where Make-A-Wish children and families can enjoy special time together.”
To benefit Make-a-Wish, 10 percent of the grand opening day’s sales will be donated to Make-A-Wish in the United States.
In addition, Disney Store will make these donations to Make-A-Wish.
- On World Wish Day, Disney Store locations across the country will donate 5 percent of sales from stores in North America, up to a maximum donation of $50,000.
- Disney Store will release a Jiminy Cricket Vinylmation figure, in stores and online, on World Wish Day. For each one sold between April 29 and May 31, 2012, Disney will donate $1 to Make-a-Wish America, up to a maximum of $15,000.
- In terms of local Make-A-Wish support, Disney Store will donate $250 to each chapter in the U.S. and Canada, for a total of $17,500, to assist with local wishes throughout the year.

Disney Store has been a sponsor of World Wish Day since its inaugural event in 2010. Disney Stores in the United States, Canada, and Europe host store promotions during the year to raise money to help make wishes come true.
Glendale Galleria Disney Store adds interactive and storytelling elements
The Glendale Disney Store remodel emphasizes interactive experiences for fans of all ages, storytelling neighborhoods and lots of Disney entertainment. Disney Store’s new design concept aims to deliver “the best 30 minutes of a child’s day.”
The redesigned Glendale includes a Disney Princess castle with Magic Mirror, translucent trees and a blue Pixie Path, a Disney-Pixar “Cars” neighborhood, and a mural of Disney characters set against a local skyline.
One of the store’s signature elements is the Disney Store Theater, which presents Disney content. This last element is home to store’s giant video library, filled with trailers, clips, music videos, and other entertainment; it is also the site for family-friendly activities such as storytelling and character drawing workshops.
