Ben: “I like to think there is more to me than simply what I do. Am I just a lawyer? Course not. Are you just a fisherman? No, you are a fisherman and a jackass.”

Kate’s newest case comes from good ole Judge Nicastro. First of all, it is always great to see a show bring back periphery characters. Plus he has a fantastic relationship with Kate. The mediation is between Captain Macon and a deckhand on his ship, Owen, who also happens to be his son. The writers did a good job of making the case hold the emotions of the episode, if that makes sense. At the center of the mediation case, it was about a father and son’s damaged relationship. It was not a case about something frivolous or unimportant; it was about something very real and heartbreaking. Did you like the case?
Ben tags along for some of Kate’s investigating. He is basically her stalker because he just appears whenever she is around the office talking to Leo about a case. This is part of the reason why Ben is so awesome. He has no boundaries, and somehow manages to help. What would be great to see is Kate interfering with one of Ben’s cases, or even Ben taking the lead on a case. It seems like the next logical step in their relationship. Ben and Kate working together is just great to see. Do you like Ben and Kate?
Lauren even works a case! It is very rare to see Lauren outside of the office, let alone in a court room. It was a little weird to see Lauren off on her own out in the world, not a bad weird just a new weird. Judge Nicastro plays a big part in Lauren’s storyline, helping her to realize that it is okay for her to start moving on from Teddy. Little by little Lauren is becoming more of a person. Before she was just Kate’s evil stepmother, now she is stepping out of that role. Hopefully this continues to happen. Lauren has never really been an extremely likeable character, and it seems like the writers are trying to change that.
