Returning down FR 140 from a visit to Courthouse Falls, a very impressive waterfall can be seen coming off the mountain and dropping into the North Fork of the French Broad River. It is easily 150 feet tall and displays at least 3 major segments on the way down.
It can be seen from the road through the foilage and the view got even better from down on the banks of the river. Obviously, a winter view will be the best.
The maps and guides of the area do reference this waterfall but do not name it. One map simply calls it “Falls on FR 140.”
If you’d like to look for this cascade sometime, take FR 140 off NC 215 above Rosman, NC and drive 1.3 miles. It will be on the left dropping into the far side of the river.
