Recently, it became popular knowledge that the FDA has had another catastrophic failure as an agency. This in reference to “Pink Slime” or as the industry calls it lean fine texture beef. This has led to individuals doubting the safety of our food and drug supply. It is a sad state of affairs when it comes to how the decisions are made at the FDA. The agency is riddle with incompetence and officials who have violated the public trust.
The FDA was created by Congress in 1906. They were created to help curtail the sale of “snake oil.” The FDA has been controversial since its conception. The Under Secretary of Agriculture, Joann Smith, approved the use of pink slime in our food supply. She then later resigned and was placed on the board of the company who makes pink slime.
The FDA also is working on a definition of “Gluten Free.” They are being pressured by major food manufactures to accept 20 parts per million of gluten as safe. Even though leading health experts agree that will do a lot of damage to individuals with Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance.
Then there where the drugs Vioxx, thalimodie There was enough medical research done prior to approval to suggest these drugs should have never been sold to the public.
What about vaccines and Autism
The FDA has a long list of failures. Can we trust them? History proves otherwise. We ought to call in to question whether the Federal Government has become part of the problem instead of the solution. Why has there been no major call for change from our elected representatives?
