The ‘TRIBUTE TO JESSE MORA’ held on April 20, 2012, from 6-8PM at Centro San Juan Diego, 2830 Lawrence St. in Denver, has very few remaining tables and individual seats available for what will be a fantastic evening of fun, food and recognition of one of Denver’s true amateur boxing icons Mr. Jess Mora.
Recently retiring from ‘active duty’ as the Colorado Golden Gloves Charities Chairman, Jess had planned on just ‘riding off into the sunset’, but rightfully so the efforts and determination of Aurelio Martinez (Inside Boxing.com), Peter Droege (Daniels Fund) and Stephen Blea (Denver Police Brotherhood) prompting this celebration of Jess Mora resulted in this proper and well-deserved send-off.
Having been friends with Mr. Mora for many years has allowed me to appreciate his tiring efforts to make a difference in the lives of so many of our Denver Hispanic youth through his Colorado Golden Gloves Charities organization, and on Friday evening April 20th from 6-8PM those efforts will be reflected upon by those who know and appreciate those efforts far better than most.
Longtime Denver amateur boxer and boxing coach Robert Baca of 20th St. Gym, along with Jeff Byrd of Backyard Brawlers notoriety are two of the guest speakers acknowledging the accomplishments of the now infamous Jess Mora with Stephen Blea serving as Master-of-Ceremonies.
Former Denver amateur standouts will be in abundance with Danny Hermosillo, ‘Lightning’ Lonnie Smith, Stevie ‘Lil But Bad’ Johnston, Denny Nelson, Tito Tovar and many others attending as a show of their appreciation and support for Jess Mora that includes an enjoyable delicious catered Mexican dinner by La Fiesta Catering (Denise Chavez) for $30 per person with tables seating 6 (six) for $150.
Also during the celebration will be the induction of Jesse Mora as the first ever member of the INSIDE BOXING WALL-OF-FAME, with Rudolfo ‘Corky’ Gonzales, Albert ‘Ice’ Mancinelli, Ernest ‘Red’ Marinez and former trainer Bobby Lewis soon to follow.
If you get the chance, please remember to ask Mr. Mora to explain (showing would be better than telling) how he acquired the nickname ‘CHICKEN LEGS’.
