Clark Creek Nature Area, located near the Louisiana/Mississippi border, is the perfect family friendly hiking trail. You can explore all day at no charge, but there is a no obligation donation box near the parking area. The short drive is well worth it considering you will get to see a great natural wonder, the rare Mississippi waterfall.
The trail is approximately three miles long, but there are shortcuts and alternate routes available. Maps are placed throughout the trails to guide you along. Some parts have very rugged terrain but most are optional routes. Those who have difficulty with vertical climbing may use the many stairs with handrails and platforms.
Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks if you are spending the day. There is exploring to be done off the trails that kids of all ages will enjoy. This is a true nature hike, with opportunities to encounter all sorts of wildlife.
The slide show is a personal trip my family and I took a few years back. The experience was truly unforgettable.
