The Gwinnett Gladiators pushed their consecutive win streak against the Florida Everblades to five Wednesday night when the two clubs faced off at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. Gwinnett netminder Marc Cheverie had a 30-save game in leading the Glads to the 2-0 shutout victory. The win locks up the ECHL South Division title for the Gladiators and means Gwinnett can finish no lower than second in the Eastern Conference.
The playoff bound clubs skated to a scoreless first period tie then at 4:26 of the middle stanza , Cody Brookwell ended the scoreless drought by beating Blades goalie John Muse, putting Gwinnett up 1-0. Cheverie blocked 10 shots in the second period to carry his shutout bid into the final period.
Doug Jones fired a shot over the shoulder of Muse midway through the third period to put the Glads up by two, and Cheverie stopped all nine shots on goal he faced in the final period to post his first shutout of the season.

The Gladiators and Everblades will play the second-of-three games in this series Friday night with the final game set for Saturday. Saturday’s contest will also be the final game of the regular season schedule.
-With Wednesday’s win, the Gladiators are 9-2-2-0 against Florida this season.
-The Glads have now won 5 consecutive games against the Everblades.
The Gladiators have secured home ice in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs and can finish no lower than 4th place in the Eastern Conference. Gwinnett has elected to host Games 3, 4 & 5 of the opening round series at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Gladiators will begin the playoffs on the road with Games 1 & 2 at the lower seed. The Gladiators first round opponent is still to be determined. Gwinnett will have home playoff games on the following dates:
Game 3: Friday, April 6th at 7:05 p.m.
Game 4: Sunday, April 8th at 2:05 p.m. (if necessary)
Game 5: Monday, April 9th at 7:05 p.m. (If necessary)
The Gwinnett Gladiators are members of the South Division of the ECHL (the Premier “AA” Hockey League) and have affiliation agreements for player placement and development with both the Phoenix Coyotes and the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.
The Gladiators play home games at the 11,355 seat Arena at Gwinnett, located off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
