A Tap Takeover of Texas Tubb’s Taco Palace was exactly the fix needed for a cold and rainy Saturday in Madison. Despite the dreary weather, a good crowd showed up to try House of Brews’ newest beer, a Black IPA. There was also music, raffles and yummy chips and salsa. And of course several tasty beers were being served on tap from Madison’s House of Brews, including the Full House Pale Ale, the Standing Stones Scotch Ale, the Prairie Rye Ale, and the Cellar Dark. Brewed especially for this tap takeover occasion, House of Brews owner and brewmaster Page Buchanan also served his Black IPA from the tap lines at Texas Tubb’s Taco Palace. All of the beers offered by Page were just $3 all night long.
The crowd gathered at Texas Tubb’s for this auspicious occasion was quite sizeable. There was standing room only at the bar and bartenders were hustling to keep patrons supplied with brews. The band lineup was as follows:
Frank Busch (3 PM – 5 PM)
Chris Plowman (7 PM – 9 PM)
Adam Pitt (9:30 PM – 11 PM)
For the time that I attended the House of Brews Tap Takeover, Chris Plowman was at the helm of Texas Tubb’s musical accompaniment. He regaled the audience with his guitar and harmonica, singing songs like “Dear Abby” and playing powerful instrumentals. Check on Chris Plowman’s YouTube video that I enclosed with this article for a sample of his work.
Page provided a varied lineup of his beers for peple to imbine. I tried his Black IPA, Pale Ale and Cellar Dark. Page’s Black IPA had a dark and smooth texture and was not too bitter for my tastes. The Full House Pale Ale was lighter and carried a nice aroma of hops to it. Incidentally, the Pale Ale does not spare on the alcohol, which comes in at 7.5% ABV. The Cellar Dark was a lightly carbonated 5.5% ABV porter and perfect for the chilly April evening. I wanted to order the Scotch Ale as well but it had sold out by the time I got to it. As a result, I decided to mix up my drinking routine by ordering a flight of mini margaritas.
In case you missed the House of Brews Tap Takeover at Texas Tubb’s, don’t fret. Page Buchanan will be taking over the tap lines at Cooper’s Tavern on May 9th and at The Malt House on May 12th as part of Madison’s upcoming Craft Beer Week.
