Although gentrification has taken hold in quite a few parts of Jersey City and surrounding areas, downtown Jersey City, the area around the Grove Street PATH station in particular, has seen an especially high degree of change over the past few years. Real estate prices have been going up, of course, and trendy bars and restaurants continue to spring up and thrive in the area.
Consequently, there is a lot to do on any given night, but not all of it is cheap. However, every Wednesday night from April to October you can find free live music on Grove Street thanks to Groove on Grove.
Since 2008, Groove on Grove has been bringing free entertainment to the area (and possibly annoying commuters getting back from a late day at the office) by featuring local artists and talent. The event is free thanks a slew of sponsors, however two sponsors that may just be of interest to anyone planning to attend are Barcade and Saigon Café, which will be supplying the beverages to help you relax on a Spring/Summer Wednesday evening downtown.
You can find the performance line-up for the next few weeks on the Downtown Jersey City Historic Special Improvement District’s website here. You have until October to check it out, and maybe if I have some free time you’ll run into me. See you there!
