Gun stores owners across America report that gun sales are skyrocketing more than ever before. According to DeWayne Irwin of the popular Cheaper Than Dirt gun shop in Ft. Worth, Texas, skyrocketing sales are being driven by growing fears that Barack Obama will be reelected in November.
“Look at who the Republicans are trying to put against Obama,” said Irwin. “It’s the Keystone Cops and people are getting scared. People are terrified he’s going to get reelected and then he won’t care about getting votes next time. He’ll pass whatever legislation he wants,” Irwin stated in an interview with the Star Telegram.
According to politicos who closely watch the mood of the electorate, such fears apparently are not without good reason. The stock market, for the very first time since the campaign season began late last year, has now placed the odds on Obama being elected for a second term.
And privately Republicans are increasingly worried that their chances of winning the White House this year are moving out of reach. None of the current Republican candidates are consistently out polling Obama despite the fact that the President’s policies, particularly with regard to the economy and healthcare, are highly unpopular.
Irwin pointed to one prominent businessman, a customer at Cheaper Than Dirt, who flatly declared,
“Republicans don’t have a prayer against Obama” this year. That man, Irwin said, spent $25,000 on ammunition, magazines and other gun paraphernalia.
In 2008 prior to the Presidential election, gun sales skyrocketed to record levels on the assumption that the anti-gun Barack Obama would more than likely be elected. This year February has become a record-setting month as sales have out paced even that of 2008.
Not only are more Americans buying guns but more gun owners are getting their licenses to carry concealed weapons. When Spartanburg County (South Carolina) Sheriff Chuck Wright urged citizens, females in particular, to get their concealed carry licenses, firearms instructors in the area are now reporting an avalanche of new students, so many that local licensing firms have been forced to hire new instructors.
Alan Korwin of GunLaws.com, stated,
“People are concerned that if Obama wins, as a lame duck, he will go after firearms in a way we have never seen before.
“We saw a fire sale when he was elected last time,” he said. “But the speculation is that now … with his need to get re-elected gone, the sky is the limit on attacking the Second Amendment.”
While Obama’s prospects for reelection are good news for gun sales across the country, the bad news is that another Obama term will more than likely mean an all out assault on gun rights and the Republicans will have blown a golden opportunity to oust one of the worst, if not the absolute worst, Presidents in U.S. history.
