Life today is full of challenges and stressers. Balancing Work, family, finances and life can make for some extreme stress in one’s life.
So, what can your parrot do to help? As many people know, pets have a therapuetic effect on many people’s lives. You will find fish tanks in doctor’s offices, nursing homes and even see small aviaries in some assisted living facilities. Many people find their cat to be a huge comfort during stressful times. As well as taking a dog for a long walk can allow you to decompress from a stressful day.
As you probably already know, living with a parrot is like living with a small child. They say the funniest things at some of the most inappropriate times! The also have an uncanny ability to access our moods and add their whimsical input to our daily lives.
If your having a stressful day, week or month, take some time every day to just enjoy the world of the parrot. Cook a fun treat or make a foraging toy for your bird. Sometimes just talking to your bird or singing a song with your bird can be a great way for you and you bird to spend quality time together and before you know it you will have escaped from reality and enjoyed some ridiculous time with your bird. It will be good for both of you.
If you and your bird are a bit more reserved maybe some grooming is in order. It can be very therapuetic for you to spend some time scratching your bird’s head. Many parrots find this to be a “must do” in life! If you are comfortable enough with your bird maybe he can reciprocate, however keep in mind most parrots are not accomplished hair stylists!
The bottom line is this, if you are stressed and need some relief, spending some quality time with any pet will be of great value to both you and your pet. Time spent with a pet has been proven to enhance our quality of life, so take the time to enjoy all that your pet brings to your life.
