The Abotsford Heat have advanced to the second round of the American Hockey League playoffs.
Wednesday night in Abbotsford, the Heat defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 to take the Western Conference Quarterfinal 3-0.
The Heat are the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames and the Admirals are the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators.
In Wednesday’s win, Heat captain Clay Wilson led the team with two goals and an assist for three points and had a team high seven shots on net on Admirals goaltender Jeremy Smith. Krys Kolanos, who played for the Calgary Flames for a portion of the season also had a multi-point game with two assists.
The Heat are not the only team that is an affiliate of a National Hockey League franchise based in Alberta that has had advanced to the conference semi-finals. On Tuesday night, the Oklahoma City Barons, the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Houston Aeros 5-2 to take the Western Conference Quarterfinals 3-1.
