“If we keep kindness selfless, it will never seem pointless” -Jamie Shaw, Creator and Founder of the Random Kindness Project
Since creating and founding the Random Kindness Project in the Summer of 2010, Hot Springs, Arkansas resident Jamie Shaw has been working hard to preserve an inspirational foundation embedded in the Random Acts of Kindness through his unique gifts which are provided to others. Through his sincere compassion, devotion, and loyalty, Shaw continues to inspire with his soul-inspiring and novel rewards. After experiencing the sadness of being unable to assist a man down in trouble and despair, Shaw felt encouraged to start the Random Kindness Project.
Since its initial launch, the Random Kindness Project has assisted at least 50 people by providing companionship and offering rewarding gifts to individuals less fortunate and in need. Since initiating the project, Shaw says his most memorable moments occur when he realizes that someone realizes that at least there is one person in this world that cares about them. That’s all anyone really wants is to feel loved and wanted.
This was particularly evident when Shaw experienced a recent and unforgettable moment:
“There was a young lady that was stranded and it was raining pretty hard. The car wouldn’t start and she let me know that someone was coming for her that she would have to leave the car. Well, she left the hood popped open so that when she came back she (could) have the person fix what she thought was wrong. Well, on my lunch break I purchased a battery, drove to her car and installed the battery(as the hood was popped). Left my email address just in case she needed anything else. I received an email from her thanking me for that and how that was kind. She was shocked because when she went back to the car and turned the car it started just fine. She said that she popped the hood and saw the note with the email address sitting atop the new battery. Because of a simple battery she was about to make it to a job interview.”
After watching several uplifting reality shows including Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Jamie Shaw became more determined than ever to begin the Random Kindness Project. After watching host Ty Pennington, his role model on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Shaw wanted to create his own touching way of giving back to his community. “I would love to reverse the notion that this world is full of bad,” says Shaw, “Bad has had its story now for a long time and I would love to start telling the good. No one in this world should feel that they are less than simply because they do not have.”
During the last year, Shaw has made a profound impact on society and in the local community through his special project. Many have been left with a positive and lasting impression of Shaw, based on his sincere and heartfelt dedication to providing others with these acts of “kindness”. Shaw intends to continue with the Random Kindness Project this year, while promoting his inspirational work on several Webisodes and TV shows around the area. Shaw says, “We can get the message out to everyone. To help more and more is always my ultimate goal.” For those individuals who base their lives on a set of rules, laws, or thoughts, Shaw says, “Just remember that the #1 underlying thing is love. If we all truly loved one another, we could eradicate negativity and hate as it would be impossible to harm one another.”
“The people you touch are your real legacy. You’re not defined by what you take from this world, because the fact is you won’t take anything with you. You’re defined by what you leave behind, by what you give to this world, by how you impact other people.” Everything Burns Intro by Rock band Shirock on new album Everything Burns.
