UH- Clear Lake student art exhibition- April 27
The University of Houston- Clear Lake Art Gallery is currently featuring multimedia artwork created by the Bachelor of Fine Art students in the gallery’s Exhibition Area, located in the Bayou Building Atrium I, Level 2, 2700 Bay Area Blvd. in Houston. Check out their creations every Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, through May 17.
The Texas Crawfish & Music Festival- April 27-29
The Texas Crawfish and Music Festival continues this weekend from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday April 27, 12 p.m. to midnight Saturday April 28 and 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday April 29 at Preservation Park, 130 Spring School Rd. in Spring. The festival includes 25 tons of crawfish, three stages of live music, a children’s petting zoo, helicopter rides, and a guest appearance by the stars of CMT’s television show Gator 911. Tickets are $12, children 12 and under are free. Parking is $7 per car.
Texas Beer Fest- April 28
Attention beer lovers: craft beers from nearly 70 different breweries will be available for tasting during the Texas Beer Fest, from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday April 28 at Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney St. in downtown Houston. The one-day event features live music, home brewing demos, food vendors and a variety of beers to sample. Entrance tickets are $30 per person. Beer tickets are $1 per 2 oz. sample, $6 per 12 oz. beer. Parking is $5 per car. All those attending the event must be 21 years and older, so be sure to hire a babysitter and leave the kids at home for this one.
Houston International Festival- April 28-29
The 42nd Annual Houston International Festival continues for its second weekend from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday April 28 and Sunday April 29. The event features international foods, arts, crafts and interactive demonstrations with a focus on Argentinean culture, along with live music on six stages throughout downtown Houston. The Green Mountain Energy Kid’s Worldarea includes crafts and activities such as instrument making, African cultural dancing, and interaction with foreign exchange students to keep the younger crowd entertained. Tickets are $18 for adults, $5 for children, ages three and under are free.
Houston Pod Chili Cook-off- April 28-29
Trader’s Village, 7979 N. Eldridge Rd in Houston, will be hosting the 41st Annual Houston Pod Chili Cook-off from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday April 28 and Sunday April 29. Sample a variety of chili as the chefs compete for awards in CASI Chili, Ron Charlton Memorial Junior Chili, Jackpot Beans, Showmanship and Salsa. Admission is free. Parking is $3 per car.
National Multiple Birth Awareness Festival- April 29
Do you have twins? Triplets? Quadruplets? Quintuplets? Head to the 4th Annual National Multiple Birth Awareness Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday April 29 at the Embassy Suites, 11730 Katy Freeway in Houston. The event, presented by the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Club and sponsored by the Texas Children’s Hospital, offers valuable information from pregnancy to sports medicine revolving around multiples, along with a multiples photo contest, car seat safety checks and a “fun zone” for the kids. The event is free and open to the public.
