Continuing on from my most recent article, Part Two on What Content Mills to Write for, now we are going to discuss getting private clients to make the most money from our freelance writing career. I will share with you the best places where I have had luck getting my own private clients starting from best to worst.
Elance is a place where freelancers and clients meet to work together. Clients post on Elance to find people who need work. Then the freelancers place bids with their price and experience and why they should be chosen. I used to think it would be too hard to get private clients through here until I decided to give it a try anyway one day. Now I am hooked because I have found a few private clients through Elance. Some have come and gone already but I still have one that just gave me a raise yesterday. I went from making a medium amount per word to an even better amount per word on my articles because the client likes my work so much. So I definitely recommend Elance. I also advise that you ensure your profile is filled out all the way with really awesome writing samples.
There are two things you can do with Craigslist to get private clients. You can either post ads advertising your writing services or you can look for work on here. I have had luck doing both so far. I responded to an ad the other day and got a response today. I also placed a few ads myself and within a couple of hours of posting these ads, I received a response. This new client might even be paying me more than what I am making with my client from Elance but he said he is still reviewing his options so I just need to wait and be patient. I highly recommend not only placing a couple of ads every couple of days because they expire after 48 hours but you should also check out the ads on there looking for writers. Just be careful with all of the scammers out there.
Guru is a great place to find good playing clients as well. I had one on there that was paying me 4 cents a word but she stopped sending me work. She still gave me a good rating so now if I bid on jobs I have a great rating to give me a better chance at finding another client. Guru is just like Elance where you bid on jobs.
Odesk is the worst place in my opinion. Sure I have had luck here but most of them want to pay too low for it to be worth anything. Odesk is also like Elance and Guru. However, I really don’t recommend it but if you think you can find a decent paying client through there then go for it.
Almost forgot about freelancer. It might even be worse than Odesk because of the low paying clients. I have had one client through here and I quit after a couple of weeks because of the low pay and he refused to give me any more money. I should have never worked for him in the first place but I needed the money at the time. So I really don’t recommend this one either but thought I would post it here just in case anyone wanted to check it out anyway.
I forgot about Fiverr and Tenrr. They are actually pretty good places to find private clients but you have to work through these sites because it is against their terms of service to give out personal information to a client on there. However, when I was still doing BMR before they shut down, I had about 8 different clients on Fiverr and one major one on Tenrr.
These are the places I have used to find private clients. You can also go on writing forums and internet marketing forums for private clients. If you have any that are not listed here, be sure to comment here.
