Yawn…. stretch!!!! Did you guys miss me? That was hibernation at its finest!!!!
I can assure you that while away from my blog I was deep in many clients’ closets purging and editing! I was closely watching the latest trends arrive on runways during fashion week as well as the upcoming spring trends we have started seeing and will soon be wearing!!!
As the new season patiently awaits us we can’t help but notice the bold colors, floral prints and whimsical fabrics in magazines and stores. Many of us are green with spring by this point and would like to have a word with Mr. Groundhog who delivered the news predicting 6 more weeks of winter! Bleh!! My advice to you is to hop into the new season NOW! The winter to spring transition is the most drastic of them all. Think about it… we are unpeeling all the layers we just spent the last 3months piling on and bundled up in! That being said, where does one start??
Start by bringing up your spring wardrobe boxes or plastic bins. Sort through items and make piles for pieces with tailoring needs and laundering needs (in case this wasn’t done before you packed them away). Take the time to try on every item and check the style and fit. This needs to be done before you hang these items in your closet for several reasons. Season changes are a wonderful time to update or wardrobe. By trying on the items you have a good idea of what you have and what you need! You also are able to clear out the items you didn’t wear last season instead of putting them right back into your closet and creating a bottomless pit! Make a list for any pieces you know you will need. For example, coral, turquoise and blue and green jewelry pieces are on most of my client’s spring shopping lists! This is also a great time to take any pictures of wardrobe creations that come to mind while unpacking your long lost gems!!
Have plastic bins that were used for your spring stuff ready! (better to see inside) with lids (to keep winter pieces protected) and your label maker ready to re-label from spring to winter! Remember, this is the biggest seasonal wardrobe transition and most of us don’t have the 8 hours we may need in one time block to get this all done so I suggest breaking up what can be an overwhelming task. Begin to load up larger sweaters that you know are the first of the heavier layers to be stored. Leave a few out as March is our snowiest month but you will no longer need all of them. Look at each sweater to decide what if any attention it needs before storing it. Has the fabric started to”ball up” it needs to be taking to the drycleaner to be de-pilled? Does it need to be laundered before being put away? Any tailoring needs like tightening of buttons that need to be mended? You will want to have these items put away so they are ready to unpacked and worn for fall. Trust me, we all get just this excited about the fall/winter season and the fashion as we do the spring even though that sounds ludicrous right now!
Keep yourself accountable and book an appointment with yourself! Block out the time to make this wardrobe transition happen. Get a head start on this task! I see it every season! We all get busy and the season zooms by and as the end of the season comes to a close, some still scramble to get fall/winter pieces that are still on their list from the season. While this is a great time to get those fall pieces on clearance it is also time to shift focus to the season ahead of us so we are not chasing our tails again but ready once spring is in full bloom!
Of course if this all sounds horribly daunting or have no idea where you will find the time to begin this process, you all know by now that this is exactly what I do and I happen to LOVE it! I am happy to help in any stage of your seasonal wardrobe transition!
Stay tuned as my next blog will be introducing the spring trends you will be over the moon for!
