Howard Stern thinks David Letterman has some serious mommy issues.
Stern psychoanalyzed Letterman on Tuesday morning’s Howard Stern Show, saying that the late night talk show host “puts himself in unhappy situations” because of guilt over “murderous rage” towards his mother.
“It’s a punishment…I don’t think Letterman likes his mother. And he has…such guilty feelings about murderous rage towards the woman…he feels he has to be punished. And so, he puts himself in unhappy situations just to be punished—over and over again.”
The “unhappy situation” Stern is referring to is Letterman’s 2009 sex scandal in which the late night icon revealed he was the target of an extortion plot because of affairs he’d been having with Late Show interns.
Stern, who appeared on Late Show on February 1st, 2012, says two and a half years after Letterman came out of the cheater’s closet, Dave is straight up “miserable”.
“He looks miserable, and when you speak to the guy he’s miserable,” said Stern.
Howard Stern attends Freudian psychoanalysis three times a week. He says he believes Letterman is attending some sort of psychotherapy as one of his wife’s “conditions” for them remaining together.
