The Connecticut RollerGirls’season is right around the corner and to kick it off, the league is celebrating at Cafe 9 with three of their favorite local hard-core bands: Bloodshot Hooligans, Progress, and Drug Shock.
The show is March 9 at 9 pm and is 21+.
And then on March 31, CTRG hits the track for the season opener. In the past, the season opener has been packed, so if you plan on going, you’ll want to buy your tickets as soon as possible. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, but again, I wouldn’t wait to buy them at the door. This is an all-ages event and really good times for everyone of any age.
Doors open at 5 and the first whistle is at 6. That night the Yankee Brutals will be facing off against one of the brand-new Connecticut leagues, Shoreline Roller Derby. And then CTRG’s All-Star Stepford Sabotage will be up against the Queen City Roller Girls from Buffalo, New York.
Now you may know that I spent a couple of months skating with CTRG but never made it past my rookie period. I admit it; I couldn’t keep up with their skills nor their dedication. And I’m an okay skater. But my point is that that was a year ago and when I was attending their practices they were amazing. Imagine what they look like now as since then they have been working their booties off.
Before I go any further, I do want to take a minute to give a quick shout-out to Shoreline, who also have been busting their butts to get ready for their first bouting season! I know this first-hand because I have attended one of their practices and personally know some of the skaters on that league too.
So to continue . . . what I’m saying is that on March 31, these ladies’ athleticism and sportsmanship will blow your mind. I expect to see you all there!
