Sit back and enjoy, as you flip through the pages of “Weaving a Chronicle” by Judith Poxson Fawkes. These woven tapestries are diverse and complex commissions in galleries, private, government and corporate collections.
In 1980 Portland Oregon, the home of Judith, mandated that 1% of public, new construction and renovation budgets be dedicated for art. This is where this book begins. Inside are 57 tapestries on exhibition and nine commissioned pieces.
There are 90 beautiful color photographs. The tapestries are of cityscapes, maps, architecture, nature and even a historical timeline. Within her weavings you will see texture, movement, color and geometric shapes. Judith’s hardcover book is filled with stories about the tapestries. The works are grouped together in chapters related to subject matter.
Weaving is becoming very popular from hand and table looms to floor looms. If you aren’t a weaver you will still appreciate the beauty of the pieces. If you do weave, you will be asking yourself how was this woven.
This is a beautiful book of inspiration to add to your fiber library.
