Liam Hemsworth stopped by Jay Leno, which airs weeknights on NBC 4 in Queens, Thursday night to promote The Hunger Games, and he got talking about his family, relationship, and co-stars.

Liam isn’t the only Hemsworth in Hollywood, so of course Jay Leno asked about his relationship with his brothers. Apparently when they were younger, his grandfather gave him a throwing knife, meaning for him to throw it at a tree—not his brother, like he did. At age six, he threw it at Chris’ head and the handle hit him in the forehead. Liam called it a way to “let him know who was boss.” Even popular Hollywood actors did dumb things as kids, especially when fighting with a brother.
Liam went on to say that the kids knew not to fight when their father was around, and though their mother would try to break them up, she’d end up in the middle. She even ended up with a broken finger when Chris tried to block her once! Boys will be boys, and now she can always point to that story when talking about her action star son.
There is also of course some brotherly teasing that continues on even today. Liam told a story about his brother sending him a text, “Hey, fatty, it’s called Hunger Games, not Eating Games,” when he heard Liam was drinking beer and eating pizza before the movie. It’s nice to hear that being big Hollywood stars hasn’t changed their relationship much.
The interview did turn to talk of The Hunger Games, and Liam called co-star Jennifer Lawrence “great,” “an amazing actress,” and an “unpredictable person” who has many interesting questions on set, such as “Liam, do you have sex with kangaroos?” As interviews with Jennifer Lawrence have shown, those words do describe her perfectly, but she is a breath of fresh air to have in Hollywood. He also brought a clip with him, showing Katniss and Gale saying goodbye after she volunteered to take her sister’s place in the Games.
Jay Leno also took the chance to ask him about the rumors that he’s engaged in the tabloids, and Liam set the record straight. Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus are not engaged, but are “in a happy relationship.” Miley just happened to have a ring on that finger, and things were blown out of proportion.
