News from the liberterrain…
The Texas Presidential Candidates Debate for the Libertarian Party nomination for President of the United States kicks off in downtown Ft. Worth on April 7 at 4 PM.
The event is being sponsored by the Libertarian Party of Texas, hosted by the Libertarian Party of Tarrant County and moderated by Sharon Harris of The Advocates for Self Government.
Confirmed participants at this writing are Bill Still, Carl Person, Gov. Gary Johnson, R. Lee Wrights, R. J. Harris, Roger Gary and Scott Keller.
While Admission is free and open to the public, a reserved seat will be held in the Platinum Premium Seating section (first two rows) for anyone making a $20 donation to the Tarrant County LP.
Getting the debate to Ft. Worth, as opposed to say Austin or Houston or Dallas, involved a circuitous route, Tarrant County LP Chair John Spivey told the Dallas Libertarian Examiner.
First, Gov. Gary Johnson was scheduled for a speaking engagement in Grapevine on February 25.
Then, Spivey explains, “we started talking about how it would be great to have a debate in Texas with a wide array of Libertarian Party Candidates in attendance.”
Then it was discovered that Johnson and many of that “wide array” of candidates were already booked to debate at the Georgia LP convention on that date.
A conference call between the Texas and Georgia LPs resulted in the Georgians taking the February 25 date and the Texans moving their event to April 7 and the site to downtown Ft. Worth.

Spivey is excited in having the North Texas District Convention, the last State Libertarian Executive Committee of Texas (SLECT) meeting, the Candidate’s Debate, and the LP State Convention coming up on June 8-10, all in Tarrant County.
The party’s nominee will be selected at the national convention in Las Vegas in May.
