Local Tree City USAs get new trees this week

April 26, 2012

In several cities in Manatee County, FL, including Anna Maria, Bradenton, Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach, trees will be planted in observance of Arbor Day 2012. Each of these cities, along with 3,400 others across the country, have been designated as Tree City USAs, a program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation.. A green ribbon tied around a tree signifies a planting as part of the Corridor Tree Canopy Program.

You can attend several special events commemorating Arbor Day tomorrow. Bradenton Beach will have a flag raising ceremony to celebrate its first year as a Tree City USA. The ceremony, as well as the installation of new native landscaping donated by Keep Manatee Beautiful, will take place at the Bradenton Beach Post Office.

Florida Power & Light will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 p.m. at the intersection of Cortez Road West and 51st St. to display new landscaping planted to buffer the substation there.

The Manatee County Courthouse will get their very first tree planted at 1 p.m. Many more plantings are in the works for the Courthouse Sqaure.

Details of these events and others can be found here.
