March – In like a Lion, Out like a Lamb. That may be true in a lot of cases but it definately does not hold water in regards to Mixed Martial Arts in Alabama in March. Try in like a lion; out like a roaring lion. Much better.
MMA in March began with March 3. Havoc in Hartselle, AL. Their very first event after ISKA has been adopted by the Alabama Athletic Commission. They had a few minor glitches but with the help of ISKA and the dedication of the event promoter the show went on as planned. The event was very good with karate students showing off their mixed martial arts skills between fights. Very entertaining.
March 9 where Arab, Alabama’s Team Hybrid Aaron “Primetime” Parrish was the main event at Island Fights in Pensacola, FL. Dillion Cleckler managed to KO Parrish in a matter of seconds. This was a major March event for the MMA fans of both Team Hybrid’s and Cleckler’s.
March 10 – Strikehard Productions 14 – Tuscaloosa, Alabama held their first event since ISKA was brought aboard by the Alabama Athletic Commission . SHP 14 was held in the new 25,000 sq foot Killer Buzz arena and they already have their next show scheduled for April 14. Next up was March 24 – Rumble in Rocket City, Huntsville, Alabama. Sportfight X had the honor of presenting the very 1st PRO/AM Show sanctioned by ISKA and the Alabama Athletic Commission in the state of Alabama. For the novice fan, that means both amateur and pro fighters were on the fight card. Excellent show and the fights were top notch. There were fights that featured the long drawn out wars (Team Sturgis Matt Smart) and fights featuring the short, explosive battles (David McAfee – Fear None). Something for everyone. The main event – Stephen Wilhite – Triad Mixed Martial Arts – made his PRO debut over JC Clemmons from Clarksville, TN that was exciting for the fans and for Triad as Wilhite secured the victory. Major props to the female fight on the card – Molly Richardson and Anna Smith. These two gals showed what being a fighter realy is. With her hand up in the end – Anna Smith – Shadetree MMA.
Last but definately not the least. AXC 2 – Cullman, Alabama is set for March 31.
