Wednesday, April 25th officially kicked off the Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival. The highly anticipated event features over 70 comedic acts and a film fest. Aziz Ansari packed two sold out shows at the Paramount, while funny man Hannibal Buress had people in stitches at The Parish.
nextooze.com was fortunate enough to make it to Cap City Comedy Club for the showcase featuring Jackie Kashian and headliner, Maria Bamford. With solid performances, these sharp and witty comedians proved why they are a ‘can’t miss’ at this festival.
Kashian’s set was comprised of humorous anecdotes about her husband and family. At one point, she stated how her husband is a gaming nerd and spoke of their wedding outfits as “costumes” and even suggested they dress like pirates in order to hijack another couple’s wedding.
Following Kashian’s performance was Maria Bamford. Known for her funny voices and even funnier faces, Maria cracked up the audience for nearly an hour. She talked of her love for junk food, her sister’s never ending quest to better Maria, and her tendency to be lazy which included her political platform: “Maria Bamford for Eagle Rock City Council. She can do it as long as it’s on a Tuesday. We only meet once a month, right?”
Maria Bamford plays Cap City Comedy Club again on Thursday, April 26th at 8 PM with supporting act, Moshe Kasher. Thursday also features Seth Myers who will be performing at The Paramount Theatre at 7:30 PM followed by Nick Offerman at 10 PM.
Tickets are still available for most shows. The Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival continutes through Saturday, April 28th at 11 venues around town. For more information including tickets, complete lineup, and showtimes, visit www.moontowercomedyfestival.com.
