A child’s love and fascination of nature has almost become obsolete with the boom of technology. It is very sad. Nintendo DS’s have taken the place of an outdoor hike in the woods. Children would rather be inside listening to the computer beeps of their handheld games that the melodic, .of chirping birds.
There are many places that allow parents to enjoy nature with their children. Merritt Island National Wildlife Rescue in Titusville Florida is a wonderful place to look at the beauty that Florida has to offer. On the unpaved path, cars are able to drive along at a slow speed and view the sites. The Refuge is home to many different types of animal habitats and plants. There is also a visitor’s center that offers many educational resources for children. A little education goes a long way! The Refuge is also visited by many groups of children on field trips or day camps. They are learning about what nature has to offer too!
Children don’t go to play or adventure outside as easily as they used to. The lure of technology keeps them inside the house. Sometimes, children have to be forced a little to see the outside world. It is well worth their complaints!
