It looks like another scandal has fallen upon the Miss Universe Pageant 2012 as Miss Dominican Republic turns out to be a Mrs which means she’s not single as the rules outline. Carlina Duran is dethroned and is no longer the Dominican Republic’s entry for the Miss Universe Pageant after the information that she was married in 2009 was revealed.
Duran was forced to hand over her crown as Miss Dominican Republic. She acknowledges that she was legally married in 2009, but says she never considered herself married “materially nor spiritually,” according to E Online. It was a brief marriage and she’s in the process of an annulment.
She also called this a “misunderstanding” on her part regarding the eligibility for this pageant. She calls her lack of knowledge around the rules “the fruit of her inexperience.” However elegantly put, runner-up Dulcita Lieggi is now going to represent her country as Miss Dominican Republic for the Miss Universe Pageant 2012.
Last month a transgender Miss Universe contestant was disqualified when the judges found out that she wasn’t born female. That scandal prompted the contest to change the rules and now transgendered woman are allowed to compete for the crown.
According to the Christian Post, the Miss Universe Pageant 2012 will be held on June 3 in Las Vegas. Fans of Carlina Duran are already online criticizing that she’s disqualified for the Miss Universe competiton. The rules specifically state that you cannot be married or divorced to qualify for this global pageant.
