When one thinks of fighting the aging process, it used to be a facelift, botox, products that cost a fortune and were reserved just for the (I hate to say it but)1%. Thankfully some of us realize the folly of trying to look young at any cost. What is on the horizon is the concept of wellness, being happy, taking care of yourself and avoiding stress as direct access to looking and feeling younger. Avoiding stress is a choice and the rise in meditation classes, alternative life style changes such as; yoga, bike riding, rock climbing, gym memberships and power walking have redfined what it is to look and feel wonderful.
I don’t think there is a product in the world that can take the place of happiness, contentment, knowing how to deal with stress and having loving relationships. In fact, I know there isn’t.
Imagine the folly of believeing that smearing on a cream is going to make you look younger, happier and “reverse the signs of aging”. Perhaps what women want is to look like they have had a perfect life, and maybe they are trying to hide the reality of real life and aging.
Granted it is harder to actually achieve happiness and contentment than putting down your credit card and hoping the cream you are buying will bely the evidence of aging. If one does not deal with their age and life as it is then they are not able to embrace life at this stage and take advantage of the years ahead.
Truly, when I look into the mirror I want to see a woman who has embraced life fully, feels proud of herself, enjoys loving relationships with her family and friends and laughs often. I suppose all of this is underlined by the great news that I am going to be a grandmother. It is the most beautiful stage of my life. My son has ” someone” and is bringing her home to meet the family. I can’t imagine ever dwelling on lines and wrinkles with such a bountiful life..perhaps I am too busy smiling.
And this all leads me to Mother’s Day and what a great time this is to be grateful for being alive. Whether you are a mother or not, you came into this world as a tiny being nestled in the womb of your mother. You ate the same food, heard the same sounds, drank the same liquid and then, voila, you set yourself free. And now here you are. Take the time to be the best and most beautiful you that you can be.
