Number 5 in the series, The Prophecy: Forsaken, continues telling us about the battles between heaven and hell. Caught between are those of us on earth and in this installment, Allison, who holds an ancient text called the Lexicon that will reveal the next Antichrist. Of course heaven and hell are both racing to find Allison and acquire the book at any cost.
Kari Wuhrer (Allison), Jason Lee (Dylan), John Light (John/Satan), Jason London (Simon), Tony Todd (Stark), Boris Petroff (Constantin), Daria Ciobanu (Maria), Georgia Nica (Gabrielle).
Picking up where installment 4 in the series left off, this entry has Allison in possession of the Lexicon, a book which will reveal the identity of the Antichrist. The film starts off well enough with some interesting mystery, horror, and action before starting a twisting, turning plot of confusion that often doesn’t make much sense. The film tries so hard to hide allegiances that even it doesn’t seem to know what is happening after a while. Top the whole thing off with a ridiculous ending that was amazingly easy considering the superpowers involved and we are left with something of a disappointment.
Acting felt stiff, unpracticed, and lacking energy from many of the cast. Wuhrer felt flat and somewhat emotionless while Light just didn’t seem all that evil. Add Todd, who seems to be riding the impact of his voice, and the energy just wasn’t there.
Camera work was a bit grainy at times with quality seeming to shift throughout the film. Sets and backgrounds were mild and stark. Effects were mediocre at best, and felt cheap at the worst. Dialogue was also lacking energy and felt plodding most of the time. Sound and soundtrack were tepid.
Overall The Prophecy: Forsaken feels like a film made because it was contracted to be made, not because there was energy or excitement behind the story. Fans of the franchise may find this one interesting, or they may feel it has finally died.
With some violence, gore, and mild sexuality save this one for older teens and above.
The Prophecy: Forsaken is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
