Nick Eversman is having the time of his life playing Ashley Judd’s son on ABC’s new drama “Missing”. I recently had the pleasure of catching up with him at a screening for the series at The Paley Center in Beverly Hills and Eversman told me what he’s most enjoying about the role of Michael, what he has been learning and who he would be in another life!
What do you most enjoy about playing Michael?
Nick- For me, honestly it’s the fact that I get to be an action hero for once. I’m a relatively skinny guy. I’m not the biggest guy. But somebody took a chance with me and god bless them for that! I grew up as a big fan of James Bond and Mission Impossible, and of course, there’s certainly some hints towards that. It’s part of the genre. It’s one of the coolest things to do: to be able to play this strong character who also has these vulnerabilities. It’s just a lot of fun. There’s a whole arc. You see Michael go from this young, innocent guy who’s thrown into this terrible situation. And then you see this other side of him where he starts to get very clever, and he starts pushing the boundaries and really starts fighting back without actually fighting. That’s something that is really cool to play internally.
What’s been a storyline you have enjoyed most from the ten episodes you have filmed?
Nick- I love working with Theresa, the young lady who plays Oxana. We had a lot of fun working together. I love their storyline as well because in the beginning, you obviously have no idea who she is, she comes to him almost to seduce him and then you end up finding out she’s a prisoner as well. So then you ask what exactly is going on there? And then of course, she takes the brunt of something that Michael did. There’s definitely going to be a story there and it’s going to continue to develop throughout. It’s going to get further and further as the show goes on, which I love. Following Ashley [Judd], which, of course, it’s Ashley- she’s fantastic and deserves the entirety of the show. But it was also really cool for me to have the ability to get my own storyline as well.
Being a young actor, what have you learned being on this network show that has allowed you to grow?
Nick- Some of it is as basic as finding your light. What way that you’re standing works best for camera, those little things. I’m still figuring all that out. But at the same time, doing something like this- this was a really tough shoot. I had a good stretch of days off in between but when I was working, it was 16, 17 hour days. It was hard intense work. Because mine was on one location, where as Ashley was all over the place. A lot of it was a lot of preparation and just working in that kind of a time frame and environment and adapting to these types of situations. It was a challenge. But I’m definitely better for it. It was great!
Since you play Ashley Judd’s son, did she give you any advice you took with you?
Nick- A lot of what she said was stay true to yourself. Do what you feel is right and stick true to that. What’s most important is for you to be comfortable. And that’s something that she exudes out of every fiber of her being-which is just absolutely wonderful. That was probably the biggest thing. She was a great mother to me over there. She really was.
If you could go back in time and spend a day in the life of anyone from history, who would it be and why?
Nick- To me I think you have to look back at some guys like John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The Beatles. That’s always really cool. It would have to be one of The Beatles. Just to see, to quote them, “a day in the life”. I mean the life that those guys lived in a ten-year span when they were just huge-it’s incredible. And to have the ability that they do. There was one album, I think it was “A Hard Day’s Night” , it was written in like a day. They just wrote it! That’s so cool! And that’s so amazing that someone has that much talent that it’s just like, “Oh let’s just do this!” That’s something that is just amazing to me. I’d love to be able to do that. I play a little guitar, I sing, but to be able to do something like that. And to change the world with those lyrics and those just simple melodies!
