Is there a feud brewing between “Starships” star Nicki Minaj and “Dance Again” singer Jennifer Lopez ? It seemed that way during Thursday’s episode of American Idol when Nicki Minaj expressed a desire to join the judging panel.
“Maybe I could come back and be a guest judge,” Minaj told Ryan Seacrest after performing her hit single “Starships.” “J-Lo, can you scoot over a little bit ?”
While she replied with a smile, Jennifer Lopez quickly shot back “I don’t know if there’s enough room for both of us.”
To be fair there have been a number of guest judges in the last few years, including Mary J. Blige. Perhaps Nicki Minaj would be a shoe-in for guest judging during the next season’s audition process. After all, she is no stranger to judging on a reality show. Just last year, she made her debut on America’s Next Top Model.
In the end, Jennifer Lopez won’t have to “scoot over” anytime soon. Nicki Minaj declared she simply won’t have any time to judge American Idol for weeks on end in a post show interview.
“I would love to (guest judge) but as far as sitting down every week, I can’t,” Minaj told THR.
In related news, Nicki Minaj will be releasing her anticipated follow up to “Pink Friday,” “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” Tuesday, April 3. The album features the Billboard Hot 100 charting single “Starships.”
